UIQ Files For Bankruptcy

Mobile software developer UIQ, jointly owned by Sony Ericsson and Motorola, has filed for bankruptcy in a district court in Sweden. UIQ began cutting staff six months ago after its owners decided to merge its software with the Symbian platform. Nokia has acquired all of Symbian and is setting up a foundation to licence the Symbian and UIQ platforms. “There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate,” UIQ chief executive Johan Sandberg told Reuters, confirming the bankruptcy filing.
