Translate with FotoTranslate
By Mack005 • Jun 20th, 2010Are you going abroad on holiday or business? and wants to look up words quickly and easily?
If you use a Nokia smartphone, ABBYY’s FotoTranslate is your best companion. This native symbian app, which can also be installed on your handsets mass memory, will instantly translate foreign words on your Symbian smartphone with one click – take a picture of a word, phrase or text fragment with the camera of your mobile phone, and get word-by-word translations on the screen.
You can choose a translation direction, e.g. Rusian to English; German to English; Spanish to English or vice-versa. For my review I chose the French to English version.
You need a computer to download the application and then install it using Nokia PC Suit or OVI Suit, since ABBYY does not have a mobile friendly site yet, to download the app directly to your phone. Mind you FotoTranslate and other ABBYY products are available on OVI Store.
The FotoTranslate has a user-friendly, intuitive interface, as you can see from the screen shot below;
I went to the extent to see if this app can capture and translate words from the computer screen, it did most of the time, but in some instances it failed. In cases like that, you have an option where you can correct the word, like this:
Key features of this application is:
- That you don’t need to type words manually. All you need to do is take a picture of the phrase or text fragment. You can also hear dictionary words pronounced. The application will be useful for travel, work and studies.
- You also don’t need a active internet connection or network signals, which means you can use the ABBYY FotoTranslate without a SIM or on Offline/Flight Mode.
Why don’t you download the 1-day trial version from here, use it and leave a comment below. Don’t forget to mention your phone model. Coz we have 5 full license to give away to our readers.
