Couple of weeks back I had the opportunity to trial the Dell Latitude 10, the Windows 8 Tablet sporting an Intel Atom Dual Core processor with 2GB DDR2 RAM and 64GB of Solid State Storage a.k.a Solid State Drive. A Big thank you goes out to Shehan (Loops Solutions, the Social Media company) for getting me this trial unit from Dell Sri Lanka.

After using it for sometimes, I felt that this is a perfect device for anyone who thinks their work is not just limited to their work desk. Reason being, the Latitude 10 fully supports x86-based applications, which mean you can install and run practically any application that you use at your workplace, I mean on your PC For testing purpose I ran FoxPro for Windows, a very old application which I used back then as a payroll accountant. The application worked smoothly, just like in the good old days, and I felt nostalgic while typing on the command window

From a business’ point of view, purchasing the Dell Latitude 10 over an iPad or Android Tablet for employees use is much cost effective in the long run. Why? Because porting your existing business system to new platform will cost you money and time. It’s not just a one-time cost, is it? Plus it will be hassle free for the IT staff to incorporate to the existing infrastructure of the company and manage.

In terms of connectivity the Dell Latitude 10 comes with a SD Card slot, miniHDMI port, standard 3.5mm stereo headphone/microphone combo jack and a full-size USB port, to which you can plug-in a mouse, keyboard, printer, broadband dongle, you name it…

Interestingly, the Latitude 10 has two charging ports side by side, a micro-USB charging port and a proprietary 40-pin charging port which is also used as the docking connector. I was wondering why Dell shipped the Latitude10 with such a bulky charger. Problem sorted, use a micro-USB charger when you are on the move

I was highly impressed by it’s battery life. I did not do any standard battery tests, however I’m sure there will be enough and more juice to survive a whole work day.

The slates reinforced magnesium alloy frame, the rubberised edges, and knowing that the 10.1-inch IPS LCD display is protected by a scratch proof Corning Gorilla Glass, gives you the confidence to toss it on the ground and stand on it.

And my overall impression on the Latitude 10 is that it will be a good work place companion but not on personal level.

You can check the photo gallery on our Facebook Page.

The case clips neatly onto the back of your Samsung Galaxy S3 and the front cover flips round to protect your S3 screen. Yes, you will be removing the original back cover and replacing with this.
This is the official Samsung Galaxy S3 flip cover specifically made for the S3, which gives it a perfect fit without adding any bulkiness to your phone. I of course felt this is a perfect choice for someone who wants a slim stylish cover for their handset, just like the cases for Galaxy Note 10.1.

The case clips neatly onto the back of your Samsung Galaxy S3 and the front cover flips round to protect your S3 screen. Yes, you will be removing the original back cover and replacing with this. Which means your original battery cover will look as brand new. And no more worries about scratching the screen, when you mistakenly put the S3 in to the same pocket where your car key are. Though your S3 has a scratch proof Gorilla glass, you still don’t feel like placing the S3, screen down on a hard surface, do you? Now you can, coz you got protection

The back cover look good as the original, or I would say better. The reason is, as you can see from the above image, the case provides a small lip projection slightly higher than the camera lens cover, unlike the original cover which is flat, leveling with your S3′s camera lens and the flasher. I presume you know what um trying to suggest Exactly, there is less chance of your rear camera lens cover getting scratched with the Samsung Galaxy S3 Flip Cover.

Overall, the Official Samsung Galaxy S3 flipcover gives a fairly a decent protection against daily wear and tear. And I actually liked it fliping it open, have to admit it was a bit hassle until I got used to one handed flipping.

The only disadvantage I see is that you need do flippit to have a glance at your screen, however I did not feel so, because um used to this Smart Alert – where your Galaxy S3 give you a vibrating nudge, if you got a message or miss calls as you pick up the handset.

Do you own a cable or satellite broadband internet connection? And not getting the bandwidth you are paying for? You can check your Internet connection speed for free, using an online Internet speed testing tool. Here is a list of some effective tools that help you know the actual speed of your internet connection.

1. Speedtest.net

Speedtest.net is the best online speed testing tool available. It’s a free tool featuring a flashy interface. All you need to do is choose a server and click the “start button” in the test tool window to begin the check. It will quickly download and upload files and then display more accurate results for download and upload connection speeds. Now you can switch over to another server and repeat the speed test. Speedtest.net creates an attractive graph of all the speed checks you perform. You can also copy the results and share it with your friends on internet using the given image links.

2. Bandwidth Place Speed Test

Bandwidth is the simplest of all internet speed test tools. It uses HTML5 technology to deliver accurate broadband results. Here, you need not bother about choosing the servers. It offers very easy-to-follow visual interface. Bandwidth can be widely used across a number of platforms which include desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile devices. After completing the check, the results are displayed in kbps. You can also find out the result and time of the last test performed.

3. Numion

Numion is yet another internet speed testing tool that is very easy to use and requires no installation. It has an inbuilt stopwatch that keeps track of the time taken to download any page on the internet thus saving your effort of hunting for a stopwatch. Numion also incudes a glossary of technical terms related to speed and throughput. Overall this free tool offers you some useful and interesting statistics.

4. Speed.io

Speed.io is a perfect tool for those looking for a fast internet speed check. It quickly checks the internet speed of the server that is close to you. It makes use of 3 different servers to download the files and brings you the results after combining all of the individual results. It lets you know the download speed, stability and response time of the broadband connection.

5. Down Tester

If you are looking for a finer degree of control over the internet speed checks you perform, Down Tester is an ideal tool. This utility works with almost all versions of Windows. The tool doesn’t automatically download files from servers across different locations but needs you to choose them. You only need to specify the list of URLs that need to be checked, Down Tester checks the download speed of them, one after another. You can also specify the number of seconds for the tool after which it moves to check the next URL. Once you are done with the download test, you can either save the result into a text or HTML file or you can copy it into other applications.

If you find that the results got by speed checking tools are not the ones promised by your ISP, you need to contact their technical support department for further assistance.

Let’s start off with, checking what the Commuter Series pack includes, that protects your valuable device.

A Self-adhesive Screen Protector – I think it is not necessary for a phone with a scratch resistance surface. So um not going to use it. What is your opinion on that, do you still use screen protectors?

Impact Absorbing Silicone – that slips over the back of the phone and around the bezel, and provides a small lip projection slightly higher than the screen.

Hi-impact Polycarbonate Cover – A plastic cover that snap into place onto the silicon. So basically, any impacts on the polycarbonate cover is distributed across a wide area and the silicone inner layer absorbs and cushions the force.

Here you go, the GalaxyS wrapped in an OtterBox

As you can see from the above pictures, it is a top notch casing, designed perfectly to snugly fit the phone. They say a pictures worth a thousand words, I’ve got 55,000 words worth of pictures over here snapped from every angle possible, to give you an idea how good it will look on your smartphone. I am truely impressed with it’s built quality.

Yes, it is a BIT bulky but worth the compromise, since you get:

Protection to your device against scratches from daily use

And for that peace of mind, knowing that the device is safe from short drops and falls. I remember how vulnerable I felt when my kids take the phone on to their hands, but not anymore with an OtterBox protection.

I’ve been using this OtterBox protection casing for almost two weeks now. And I feel that I should have wrapped my expensive smartphone with an OtterBox, soon as I bought it. Had I used an OtterBox casing, surely, I could have avoided those scratches on the back camera lens, which you can see from the above picture. Don’t you think I could have fetch a higher re-selling value if not for the scratches?

The internet is simply a few decades old phenomenon, but the way it has expanded in the limited span of time duration is incredible. It has evolved from simple networks to a global entity. Now you could see the web serving as a useful platform for communication, business, education and entertainment. Every other day, you have certain new development seen in this world. So, the future of internet is simply beyond ones imagination, yet we could enlist a couple of technologies which will drive the future of internet. Five of these are discussed below:

NFC technology

NFC or the near field communications is basically a short range technology, which helps the cell phone users to implement easy transaction like online shopping and data exchange that is possible through waving the handsets or simply touching the receiver. Though this technology is currently available, yet seems to be underutilized with limited number of applications available in the market. However, as per the experts, NFC would be among the leading technologies, which will drive the future of internet in terms of mobile couponing, mobile ticketing while controlling the accessibility to vehicles and offices

M2M communication technology

As per Richard Hills from Applied Minds, the technology behind Machine to Machine or M2M communications is supposed to drive the Internet in the coming times. Once the entire infrastructure in the world will adopt internet to carry out day to day business operations, M2M technology will ultimately finds its place in the world. M2M communications deals with technologies, which enables the equipments, devices, or machines to communicate with different people. This technology is used somewhere in a varying level. For instance, it is used in line vehicles, wherein the computer system of vehicles communicates the engine the way to operate under specific conditions.

Privacy mode is also known as private mode. This refers to the private features that are available in mobile browsers of android phones. All the web browsers store all the browsing images, history, videos, cache and texts. In privacy mode, all this information is not stored by the browser. This is not the default mode. If you want to do private browsing, you must switch on the privacy mode for the session. This mode allows the user to browse without storing the local data in the computer, so the history and other information are untraceable. You must keep in mind that no other privacy is offered other than the local one. Privacy mode will also not save any details in forms of cookie either.

History

The first ever browser to have included a private mode was the Safari browser, way back in the year 2005. Since then this feature has been used and adopted by many other browsers. The concept was instantly popular and followed many updates and improvements. Privacy mode only does not store the data and information for a every session.

How to do it

Switching to private mode is very easy. Many popular browsers like Firefox, chrome, opera and others have option for private browsing. The private mode opens a new window, especially for private browsing. As soon as you close the window, your single session of private browsing is deactivated. If you want to browse again, you have to switch on the private mode again. Any user using the computer will not be able to trace your histories or data.

For a cell phone, there are several applications available on the internet for private browsing. The web browsers compatible with androids also have private mode inbuilt in them. You can activate the private mode and do your browsing. If you want more of a permanent application, you can go for the android apps that are specifically made for browsing online privately.

Private mode in android phone

The latest operating system for mobile phones is android. Android has many versions, the latest being the Jelly Bean. There are several browsers which are compatible with this new operating system. These operating system supports private mode for browsing even for cell phones. For Google chrome you need to start the incognito mode. This enables private browsing.

Is it safe?

This depends sole on the user’s perspective. If you want to do shopping or do not want your browsing history to be traceable, you can opt for this mode. It’s completely safe for browsing the internet.

You must keep in mind that it does not remove all forms of history. If you download a file in a private mode, it will be saved on the machine. If you want to hide that file, you will have to download completely different software for that. Private mode also only hides all the local data only. Your IP address cannot be hidden. It is also the best way to use when using your bank account details.

So if you are just looking for browsing, the private modes in the android browsers it’s quite safe and easy.

Once you open the application and tap on the “Send a postcard” button, you will get four option to choose your image, either to take a fresh photograph from your cameraphone; or to choose an image from the photo gallery on your devise; fetch one from your Facebook photos or select one from the Olympic Games gallery. Once you choose your image, you have the option to re-size, move and rotate the image to your liking.

Next you add the recipient’s address, either by selecting from the address book on your device, or can be entered manually, and in the next screen you will be asked to enter your personlised message. Then you are presented to preview your card as illustrated in the following images.

The cards are nice, printed on glossy card stock, 6 x 4.25 inches in size. I created the cards on August 01st and I received it on 6th of August. Why don’t you try sending a card to your loved ones. You can download this app from the Google Play.

Three of the local telecommunication service providers – Mobitel, Hutch and Dialog is offering off-peak broadband data packages called Late Night Internet, Midnight Pack, Nighttime Package respectively. Wonder what the other two carriers will name their offpeak packages, in case they decide to follow the rest… any suggestions? As the package names implies, they are all for late night internet surfing or rather downloading, starting from midnight to six in the morning. I believe Mobitel and Dialog made a strategical move by targeting their postpaid customers to stay away from network overload issues. Where as Hutch offering theirs to all prepaid customers. When comparing all three off peak night time plans, I feel Hutch is offering the best package. On the other hand Hutch beats Dialog on the validity period of the packages, since Dialog is only offering one-night stands But the question is… Is Midnight Packs really worth the money? Let’s do some speed test see if they really deliver what you and me expect, the download SPEED!

As you can see the results, Dialog’s Nighttime Package download speed was good. I was able to download a 146MB zip file in less then 20 minutes. But have to mention that on my first attempt, the download stopped at 27.1MB. I had no problem in surfing the net and watching Youtube using the Nighttime Package. On the other hand the Midnight Pack, browsing the net was somewhat manageable, however downloading the same 146MB zip file was never accomplished, and watching a clip on Youtube was a pain.

Unfortunately I did not have a Mobitel postpaid SIM to run a test. Anyone of you using Mobitel Late Night Internet Add-on Plan? Please do tell us your experience with all three off-peak data plans.
