By • Aug 7th, 2012 • Category: Apps & Software

Touchnote for Android devices allow you to create and send a postcard to anyone in the world, yes that includes Sri Lanka too! Once you’ve selected your own image and add a message, you send it to Touchnote.com and they will print and post your postcard to your designated mail address, isn’t that cool? By the way, did I menstion it’s totally FREE until 31st August 2012. I’ve been using this app since 2009 and here’s a review that I did back then on Nokia N82. This time I tested the Touchnote with a Samsung GalaxyS as well as on Huawei Media Pad. It has an intuitive interface. Therefore you will not find it difficult to run through the whole process. Once you open the application and tap on the “Send a postcard” button, you will get four option to choose your image, either to take a fresh photograph from your cameraphone; [...]

Huawei MediaPAD Gets Ice Cream Sandwich

By • Apr 30th, 2012 • Category: Apps & Software

Today I happened to check the Huawei MediaPAD web-page to find the Android 4.0 ICS update. It’s fairly a straight forward installation process, where you have to download this 328.96MB zipped file. Once extracted, you will find  the following highlighted files and folders. Open the ‘upgrade’ folder and copy the ‘dload’ folder, which will contain the following files, to the root directory of your microSD card. Then insert the SD card into MediaPad and switch it on. If everything runs well, you will get the following screen, and all you have to do is follow the screen instructions. P.S.: I tested this software S7-301u V100R002C232B002 with Dialog, Airtel and Hutch networks and had no issues with call and data.

Translate with FotoTranslate

Are you going abroad on holiday or business? and wants to look up words quickly and easily? If you use a Nokia smartphone, ABBYY’s FotoTranslate is your best companion. This native symbian app, which can also be installed on your handsets mass memory, will instantly translate foreign words on your Symbian smartphone with one click – take a picture of a word, phrase or text fragment with the camera of your mobile phone, and get word-by-word translations on the screen. You can choose a translation direction, e.g. Rusian to English; German to English; Spanish to English or vice-versa. For my review I chose the French to English version. You need a computer to download the application and then install it using Nokia PC Suit or OVI Suit, since ABBYY does not have a mobile friendly site yet, to download the app directly to your phone. Mind you FotoTranslate and other [...]

Twitter for Android: Robots like to share too

By • May 1st, 2010 • Category: Apps & Software

Friday, April 30, 2010 When we tweet what’s happening around us, we share not only our thoughts, but also web pages, photos, videos, location…anything. Mobile phones are increasingly part of our lives, and we seem to be doing everything but making phone calls. Reading the news, watching a YouTube video, and taking photos at events like the World Cup are things we expect to do on mobile phones – sharing our experiences on these little screens should be just as easy and fast as on big ones. When apps work well with each other, sharing becomes as second nature on machines as it does in person. The Android platform is really good at that, and we’ve worked with the Android team to make it super easy to share what’s happening. Today we are excited to announce that Twitter for Android is available in Android Market! Twitter for Android is a fantastic [...]

Simply press and hold the green “call” button, speak your search, and see your results quickly appear without typing a single letter. Try it now for any search, like the name of my favorite hometown pizza place, “Punch Pizza in Minneapolis.” You can also search by voice for addresses like “802 Washington Avenue Southeast” or search for other another pizza place to try by speaking, “pizza restaurants.” Currently [...]

By • Mar 12th, 2010 • Category: Apps & Software

The YouTube mobile application for Symbian phones have been updated to version 2.4.4, which now supports login to your YouTube account, so that you could watch your favorites, your subscriptions, your playlist and the videos that you uploaded. And in this new release you will also find search query suggestions, and a new homescreen user interface that is optimized for larger screens. I also found very interesting is the option to copy the URL of the selected video. To download the app on your S60 phone, simply open your phone browser and type http://m.google.com/youtube/
