The Official Samsung Galaxy S3 Flip Cover

By • Mar 30th, 2013

This is the official Samsung Galaxy S3 flip cover specifically made for the S3, which gives it a perfect fit without adding any bulkiness to your phone. I of course felt this is a perfect choice for someone who wants a slim stylish cover for their handset, just like the cases for Galaxy Note 10.1. The case clips neatly onto the back of your Samsung Galaxy S3 and the front cover flips round to protect your S3 screen. Yes, you will be removing the original back cover and replacing with this. Which means your original battery cover will look as brand new. And no more worries about scratching the screen, when you mistakenly put the S3 in to the same pocket where your car key are. Though your S3 has a scratch proof Gorilla glass, you still don’t feel like placing the S3, screen down on a hard surface, do you? Now you can, coz you got [...]

OtterBox for Peace of Mind.

By • Dec 17th, 2012

First of all, I would like to thank Shehan (Loops Solutions, the Social Media company) who got me this Commuter Series casing for the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 from Quincy, the official agent for Otterbox here in Sri Lanka for a review. Let’s start off with, checking what the Commuter Series pack includes, that protects your valuable device. A Self-adhesive Screen Protector – I think it is not necessary for a phone with a scratch resistance surface. So um not going to use it. What is your opinion on that, do you still use screen protectors? Impact Absorbing Silicone – that slips over the back of the phone and around the bezel, and provides a small lip projection slightly higher than the screen. Hi-impact Polycarbonate Cover – A plastic cover that snap into place onto the silicon. So basically, any impacts on the polycarbonate cover is distributed across a wide area and the silicone [...]

Share Your Photos As Beautiful Printed Postcards

By • Aug 7th, 2012

Touchnote for Android devices allow you to create and send a postcard to anyone in the world, yes that includes Sri Lanka too! Once you’ve selected your own image and add a message, you send it to Touchnote.com and they will print and post your postcard to your designated mail address, isn’t that cool? By the way, did I menstion it’s totally FREE until 31st August 2012. I’ve been using this app since 2009 and here’s a review that I did back then on Nokia N82. This time I tested the Touchnote with a Samsung GalaxyS as well as on Huawei Media Pad. It has an intuitive interface. Therefore you will not find it difficult to run through the whole process. Once you open the application and tap on the “Send a postcard” button, you will get four option to choose your image, either to take a fresh photograph from your cameraphone; [...]

Off Peak Broadband Package Evaluation

By • Jul 29th, 2012

Three of the local telecommunication service providers – Mobitel, Hutch and Dialog is offering off-peak broadband data packages called Late Night Internet, Midnight Pack, Nighttime Package respectively. Wonder what the other two carriers will name their offpeak packages, in case they decide to follow the rest… any suggestions? As the package names implies, they are all for late night internet surfing or rather downloading,  starting from midnight to six in the morning. I believe Mobitel and Dialog made a strategical move by targeting their postpaid customers to stay away from network overload issues. Where as Hutch offering theirs to all prepaid customers. When comparing all three off peak night time plans, I feel Hutch is offering the best package. When you compare Hutch with Mobitel,  e.g. by activate 2 Midnight Packs, you get 8GB for two hundred and eighty rupees, where as Mobitel’s 8gig pack will cost you Rs.350. On the other hand [...]

eZ Cash – Payment Made Easy

By • Jul 13th, 2012

Wondering what eZ Cash is? It’s a mobile money service introduced by Dialog Axiata, which you can use, to send and receive money; pay your utility bills and for various other transactions. For more details and ‘getting started’ guide, click here. Is this useful? read on to find out I was most attracted to the utility bill payment service, because I beleive it makes our life easier. Remember the days when we had to go to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), or the National Water Supply & Drainage Board (NWSDB)  itself to pay the bill? And then they made it easy by letting us pay it at a designated bank or a supermarket. But still you need to fill slips and stand in ques to pay the bills. But eZcash has made it more easier! Now all you have to do is, add up the utility bill totals at the end of the month and [...]

The Samsung Galaxy SIII Review

By • Jul 2nd, 2012

Thanks to Etisalat Sri Lanka, I was able to get ma hands on the Samy’s latest flagship phone, the GalaxyS3. And here it is! You may already know that the S3 comes with a Quad-core 1.4GHz processor coupled with Mali-400MP graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM, which I believe is partly responsible for the best browsing experience that you can get on a smartphone. Browsing is so smooth and fast, and if you are a Chrome user on your desktop, you can easily sync your bookmarks, saved passwords etc between the devices. Talking about the display, it has a superb 4.8 inch Super HD AMOLED screen. In my opinion, I feel screen size should not get bigger than this on a smartphone, since I felt a bit uncomfortable reaching to the top of the screen with my thumb, while holding the phone with my other fingers. This time Samsung has opted for the PenTile display [...]

How Fast Is My Broadband?

By • May 8th, 2012

The easiest way is to do a broadband speed test This broadband speedtest was done in Wallawatta, on a weekday between 8pm to 9pm with Airtel, Dialog, Etisalat, Hutch. I did three test for each network with a time gap of 5 to 10 minutes, and then arrived at the average. The main objective of this test was to decide whether I should change my Internet Service Provider (ISP) or stick with Dialog. Download Speed (Mbps) Upload Speed (Mbps) Airtel 0.88 0.11 Dialog 2.20 0.31 Etisalat 3.25 0.08 Hutch 2.81 0.15 For detailed test data please click here. I know it would have given a better picture if I had done a number of speed tests at different times of the day and on different days – weekdays, weekends etc. I actually did, but somehow lost them. Please note Mobitel was not included in this speedtest as I did not have [...]

Huawei MediaPAD Gets Ice Cream Sandwich

By • Apr 30th, 2012

Today I happened to check the Huawei MediaPAD web-page to find the Android 4.0 ICS update. It’s fairly a straight forward installation process, where you have to download this 328.96MB zipped file. Once extracted, you will find  the following highlighted files and folders. Open the ‘upgrade’ folder and copy the ‘dload’ folder, which will contain the following files, to the root directory of your microSD card. Then insert the SD card into MediaPad and switch it on. If everything runs well, you will get the following screen, and all you have to do is follow the screen instructions. P.S.: I tested this software S7-301u V100R002C232B002 with Dialog, Airtel and Hutch networks and had no issues with call and data.
