Are you going abroad on holiday or business? and wants to look up words quickly and easily?

If you use a Nokia smartphone, ABBYY’s FotoTranslate is your best companion. This native symbian app, which can also be installed on your handsets mass memory, will instantly translate foreign words on your Symbian smartphone with one click - take a picture of a word, phrase or text fragment with the camera of your mobile phone, and get word-by-word translations on the screen.

You can choose a translation direction, e.g. Rusian to English; German to English; Spanish to English or vice-versa. For my review I chose the French to English version.

You need a computer to download the application and then install it using Nokia PC Suit or OVI Suit, since ABBYY does not have a mobile friendly site yet, to download the app directly to your phone. Mind you FotoTranslate and other ABBYY products are available on OVI Store.

The FotoTranslate has a user-friendly, intuitive interface, as you can see from the screen shot below;

I went to the extent to see if this app can capture and translate words from the computer screen, it did most of the time, but in some instances it failed. In cases like that, you have an option where you can correct the word, like this:

Key features of this application is:

That you don’t need to type words manually. All you need to do is take a picture of the phrase or text fragment. You can also hear dictionary words pronounced. The application will be useful for travel, work and studies.

You also don’t need a active internet connection or network signals, which means you can use the ABBYY FotoTranslate without a SIM or on Offline/Flight Mode.

Why don’t you download the 1-day trial version from here, use it and leave a comment below. Don’t forget to mention your phone model. Coz we have 5 full license to give away to our readers.

Nokia C2 target firmly set in the developing world, offers the possibility of having one handset running two SIM cards simultaneously.

The main draw to the Nokia C2 is obviously the dual-SIM functionality. The Nokia C2 can keep both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery. The second SIM card is ‘hot-swappable’, a feature unique to Nokia, meaning it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on. Nokia C2 will allow you to answer one call and keep the other on hold is great news. Potentially, you could have a work and home account on the same mobile or share the phone with another person. What do you guys think?

Listening to music is simple with the FM radio and music player, with a massive amount of music storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB.

There’s also enough room for up to 1,000 entries in the phone book, and a standby time of up to 16.5 days. A VGA camera, Bluetooth and GPRS also make the Nokia C2 a very attractive offering.

It doesn’t end there, the Nokia C2 is also a bargain and is the most wallet-friendly Series 40 device to date coming in at LKR 6200 before duties and taxes. With a penciled on-sale date of Q4 this year it’ll be available in grey, black, magenta, dark blue or white.

Nokia announced couple of, long waited dual SIM a handset, The Nokia C1 is one of them. This is the most affordable of the three, coming in at a bargain price of LKR.4222 before duties and taxes

The Nokia C1 (C1-00) allows you to have the one handset housing two SIM cards, Alex Lambeek, vice president, Nokia had this to say about the functionality:

“By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards, meaning that they can take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or being able to share a phone within a family and still use their own SIM card. This is a great added convenience feature, considering the low price of the phone.”

Running the Series 30 interface, the C1-00 also comes boasting a stupendous standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever on a Nokia phone, plus room for 500 phonebook entries, and 250 text messages onboard. Aimed at those in the developing world there’s also some handy features such as a flashlight and an FM radio with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of design, it measures in at 15mm thin and weights 73g with the battery and sports a full colour screen.

The Nokia C1 (C1-00) will be available in the third quarter of 2010 in blue, red, light grey and green.

Nokia, the Finish company released it’s first netbook computer known as the Booklet 3G. Two weeks back I had the opportunity to trial this master piece. It came with Microsoft Windows 7 Starter pre-installed. Speaking about the hardware configuration, it sports a Intel Atom Z530 1.6 GHz processor with 120GB hard drive along with just 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Hardware wise you don’t see much of a difference between the Booklet and the other Netbooks in the market, except for it’s embedded 3G/HSDPA modem and built-in GPS receiver.

The Nokia Booklet 3G’s chassis is crafted from single piece of tough, resilient elemental aluminium. And uses the Intel Poulsbo US15W chipset with fanless design, so it’s ultra quiet.

The 10.1 inch HD display is covered with a glass layer for a crisp and clear view of the screen. Nokia Booklet includes a HDMI connector, two USB ports and a 3.5mm audio connector on to your left hand side and on the right hand side you get the Charger connector, one USB port, Memory and SIM card slot cover and the power button.

Regarding the keyboard and touch-pad, it is well designed.

The Booklet has a 1.3MP camera and an integrated microphone.

Size wise, it’s smaller than a A4 size paper. To give you a rough idea, I have taken some pix with a thousand rupee note. The Nokia Booklet 3G has a marathon 12 hour battery life, thanks to it’s 16 cell 3840mAh Lithium lon battery.
